Is Marriage like a Rorschach Test?
Have you ever noticed that you and your partner sometimes see things very differently? The very same things. Reminds me of the classic Woody Allen film “Annie Hall” with Woody himself (“Alvy Singer”) and Diane Keaton (“Annie Hall”), in which we see a split screen with both of them talking to their separate therapists about [...]

Financial Infidelity: Are you dishonest about money?
As the economy tightens, handling of finances in families is increasingly at the core of family fights and conflicts presented to therapists. Financial strain may greatly increase family stress which in turn affects all aspects of the relationship and family life. Even worse, is the introduction of what therapists are now calling “financial infidelity” – [...]

Empathy, Marriage
Is Empathy Declining?
Empathy is defined as the ability to put oneself in another’s shoes, to understand their feelings and feel them yourself, and to see the world as they do. Theodore Roosevelt said: “A very large share of the rancor of political and social strife arises from sheer misunderstanding by one section, or by one class, of another, or [...]

Anger Coach — Dr. Fiore & Associates

The AngerCoach Online Videos

The AngerCoach Videos are a free service provided by Dr Tony Fiore - The AngerCoach. In these videos we highlight some practical ways to apply anger management tools in your life. Every month we will be offering new and viable tips and exercises for individuals seeking to offer help to loved ones, friends or who are interested in their own personal development.

Please note: This anger program and these anger tips are not meant to substitute for professional diagnosis, treatment or advice. If you have intense, serious or chronic anger problems, or you have to deal with someone else who does, you should immediately consult a mental health or medical professional for help.

Episode 1 : Stress

November, 2009
This months episode discusses the effect stress has on our anger. If you learn how to manage your stressors better, you can learn to manage your anger as well.

Episode 2 : Empathy

December, 2009
This months episode discusses the positive effect Empathy has on our anger. If you can learn to see the world through the eyes of other people and truely empathize with people you will find that it will be hard to get angry with them.

Episode 3 : Respond Instead of React

January, 2010
For this episode, we talk about how to control anger by choosing how we respond to things instead of reacting. When we react we give little thought to our actions and their outcomes, however if we choose to respond instead of reacting, we think about different ways we can behave and then choose the best response. This is important because we can't always control the things that make us angry, but we can control how we respond to these situations.

Episode 4 : Change Your "Self-Talk"

February, 2010
In this video we help show people how to control their anger by paying attention to their "Anger Triggers". We live in a complex world and there is literally no end to things that can trigger anger in us, and while we may not be able to control what triggers anger in us, we can control how we respond to that trigger. The way we teach people to do that is by changing our "self talk". If we change what we tell ourselves about what made us angry, we can change the way we respond to that anger trigger.

Episode 5 : Communicate Assertively

March, 2010
In this video we discuss the importance of assertive communication. Sometimes anger can arise simply because we have not asserted ourselves properly. To communicate assertively you need to be honest and open with the people around you. If your partner does something that upsets you - tell them honestly what they did and offer practical ways to avoid the situation in the future.

Often people simply "bottle up" their feelings until one day they explode in an outburst of anger, but by communicating assertively you can avoid these situations and improve your relationships with those around you.

Episode 6 : Four Ways to Forgive and Accept Wrong by Your Partner

April, 2010
In this video we discuss the importance forgiveness plays in anger management and relationships. To forgive means to let go of resentment. It does not mean we condone or even forget the wrong we may have encountered. Forgiveness involves a commitment to protect ourselves from future harm and to protect our state of mind despite the damage we may have incurred from a partner. All of us can forgive, but that decision has to be one we make ourselves at a time that we can truly commit to.
